Synagogue in Lučenec

Synagogue in Lučenec, Art Nouveau synagogue in Lučenec, Slovakia.

The Synagogue in Lučenec is a house of worship built in the Modern style, featuring brickwork, detailed patterns, mosaics, and colored glass windows throughout its design. Gilded elements and craftwork adorn the interior spaces and give the building its distinctive appearance.

The building was constructed between 1924 and 1925 according to designs by architect Lipót Baumhorn. Its interior suffered damage during World War II, which was repaired through several restoration campaigns that concluded in 2016.

The synagogue reflects the architectural language of Jewish communities in this region and serves today as a venue for exhibitions, concerts, and gatherings. Visitors can experience the spaces during cultural events and understand how the building functions as a meeting place for the community.

The building is located in southern Slovakia and welcomes visitors interested in religious architecture and design. Events are held regularly, so checking current opening times before your visit is helpful.

Architect Lipót Baumhorn designed about two dozen synagogues across the former Austro-Hungarian territories in the early twentieth century. This building represents one of his significant works and displays his personal approach to modern religious architecture.
