Námestie A. Hlinku

Námestie A. Hlinku is a pedestrian square in Žilina structured by green spaces, a heart-shaped fountain, and a bronze statue as focal points. The space is framed by the Mirage shopping center and the Považská Gallery of Art, which together create a varied urban setting.

The square developed where the Váh River and Všivák stream once flowed, creating a waterway landscape that shaped the area before the 20th century. Urban development transformed this water feature into the public space seen today.

The square is named after Andrej Hlinka, a key figure in Slovak national revival, and his bronze statue stands at the center of the space. Visitors can encounter this important historical personality whose work shaped local culture and identity.

The square is accessible on foot with clear paths for walking and pausing at different areas of the space. Nearby buildings offer shopping, galleries, and parking facilities for those arriving by car.

The fountain was designed by artist Jozef Haščík and features a heart shape, giving the square a distinctive character. This design replaced an earlier structure and reflects a modern approach to public space.
