Obchodný dom a hotel Kyjev is a 15-story structure combining a department store with a hotel tower on Kamenné námestie. Travertine cladding covers the exterior, while interior corridors with rounded edges link the retail and accommodation sections.
Architect Ivan Matusik won a design competition in 1960, which led to the construction of the department store in 1968 and the hotel tower in 1973.
The building marks the post-war push to modernize Bratislava and stands as a local landmark that changed how people shop and stay in the city center.
The complex links retail spaces and hotel services through a connecting corridor, making it easy to explore both sections. Visitors can navigate the interior and appreciate the rounded corridor design while passing through.
The Kyjev Club on the hotel's ground floor features an oval bar set into a recessed floor with an oversized chandelier above it. This sunken design creates an unexpected gathering space within the hotel section.
