Kapušany castle Hill

Kapušany castle Hill is a castle ruin positioned on a strategic hilltop with rectangular foundations, where sections of a two-story residential building and a square west tower still remain. The site displays ruins of structural complexes that developed over time and reflect multiple building phases.

The castle was built around 1300 as a fortress called Maglovec and protected trade routes connecting Prešov, Bardejov, and Poland. Its destruction came in 1709 during a regional uprising, ending its role as a military stronghold.

The fortification shows how medieval communities protected themselves through castle structures and how such sites evolved over generations. Walking around, you can observe how the architectural layers reflect different periods and changing approaches to defense.

The ruins can be reached via marked trails starting from Kapušany village and are accessible throughout the year without restrictions. The paths are straightforward to follow, and the hilltop provides good views of the surrounding landscape.

The ruin contains architectural elements spanning multiple periods, including a 16th-century outer fortification with economic buildings that supported daily operations. These structures reveal how the fortress managed its resources and functioned beyond just military defense.
