Hrad Šebeš, Medieval castle ruins in Podhradík, Slovakia
The castle ruins stand atop a rocky hill, featuring remaining sections of stone walls, towers, and a gate leading to an internal courtyard.
Built in the 13th century as a wooden structure, the castle evolved into a stone fortification that protected regional trade routes until its burning in 1550.
The castle represents Slovak medieval military architecture with its circular tower design and thick defensive walls surrounding a residential palace complex.
Visitors can reach the castle ruins through a 500-meter marked path from Podhradík village, with information boards detailing the site's history.
The castle's transfer to Košice ownership sparked local tensions with Prešov citizens, resulting in deliberate destruction that left the structure in ruins.
