The late-Romanesque Church of St George features tall wooden roofs, five Gothic altars, and a Renaissance belfry from 1598 near its walls.
Built before 1273, the church underwent Gothic reconstruction in 1464, marking a period when Spišská Sobota was more influential than Poprad.
The church contains altars crafted between 1503 and 1520 by Master Paul of Levoča, a prominent medieval Slovak woodcarver and sculptor.
The church sits on the central triangle-shaped square of Spišská Sobota, surrounded by medieval buildings with characteristic wooden roofs.
Queen Elizabeth II selected this church as her only religious site visit during her first and final trip to Slovakia in 2008.
