Abrod, Nature reserve in Malacky district, Slovakia.
Abrod is a nature reserve in the Borská lowland covering 92 hectares of wetlands and bog vegetation situated in an elongated depression formed by the Porec creek. The landscape features characteristic bog grasses, marsh plants, and moisture-loving species that thrive in this natural basin.
The protected area received official status on August 21, 1964, and was later integrated into the Záhorie Protected Landscape Area in 1988. This designation allowed the unique bog habitats to be preserved and studied over the long term.
The reserve serves as a research site where scientists study plant communities, documenting numerous relic species in their natural habitat.
The reserve is accessible via a narrow asphalt road from Závod station. Visitors should wear appropriate footwear, as much of the terrain is wet and difficult to walk on.
The reserve holds the largest complex of purple moor-grass fens in Slovakia. This rare bog formation is inhabited by multiple endangered plant species found in only a few other places across Europe.
