Eight residents lost their lives in this incident, which stands as one of Slovakia's most severe residential disasters since a similar event in 1974.
The tragedy prompted nationwide solidarity movements, with numerous Slovak citizens contributing to support funds for affected families and reconstruction efforts.
Following the incident, authorities implemented new protocols for regular gas infrastructure inspections in residential buildings throughout Prešov and surrounding regions.
The explosion generated sufficient force to shatter windows in neighboring buildings and required evacuation operations within a three-hour timeframe.
