Kolda Region, Administrative region in southern Senegal.
The region spans 13,771 square kilometers across three departments: Kolda, Médina Yoro Foulah, and Vélingara, with borders to Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, and The Gambia.
The territory, formerly called Haute Casamance, emerged from the settlement established by Koly Dado near the Casamance River in the pre-colonial period.
The Fula people form the primary ethnic group in the region, followed by Mandinka and Jola communities, each maintaining their languages and traditions.
The National Road 6 connects Kolda to major cities like Dakar and Ziguinchor, while the Center of Zootechniques Research supports local livestock development.
The region maintains an active cotton production industry and features specialized dairy farms that supply products throughout southern Senegal.
