Mosque Keizerstraat, Ahmadiyya mosque in Paramaribo, Suriname
The Mosque Keizerstraat is a stone building with two minarets located in central Paramaribo. It was completed in 1984 and features white walls and geometric designs that distinguish it from surrounding structures.
A wooden mosque originally built in 1932 first served the Muslim community in Paramaribo. It was replaced by the current stone structure to accommodate the growing congregation.
This mosque serves as a hub for the Muslim community in Paramaribo and represents their presence in the city's religious life. Local Muslims gather here for prayers and important celebrations throughout the year.
The building stands on Keizerstraat in the old town area and welcomes visitors outside of prayer times. Modest dress and quiet behavior are expected when touring the interior.
Next to the building stands the Neveh Shalom Synagogue, creating an unusual pairing of two different houses of worship side by side. This arrangement reflects how different faith communities coexist peacefully in the city.
