Waterkant 2, Paramaribo

Waterkant 2 is a white wooden building located at the corner of Waterkant Street, built in the traditional colonial style typical of the area. The structure features covered galleries that face toward the Suriname River, allowing for shade and ventilation.

The building was constructed as part of the settlement expansion along the riverside during the 1600s following the establishment of the fort. A major fire in the early 1800s prompted a redesign of structures throughout the street, shaping the appearance visible today.

The building displays the wooden construction and open galleries that became typical after a major fire reshaped the street's character. This architectural approach developed as a practical response to the tropical climate and riverside location.

The monument sits near the Central Market area and is easy to reach on foot when exploring the old part of the city. The location offers good pathways and clear landmarks in the surrounding area for navigation.
