Al-Suwayda

Located in the foothills of Al-Duruz Mountains, Al-Suwayda sits at the eastern edge of the Hawran region with a network of agricultural lands and historical structures.

The Nabataeans established Al-Suwayda in the first century BC, and it later transformed into a Roman settlement known as Dionysias Soada during the Hellenistic period.

The population of Al-Suwayda consists of 90 percent Druze inhabitants, with Christian and Sunni Muslim communities contributing to the social fabric of the region.

Al-Suwayda functions as a regional agricultural market center where farmers trade grapes, apples, olives, and wheat produced in the surrounding fertile lands.

The Temple of Dionysus-Dushara and Saint Sergius Basilica ruins stand among the archaeological structures that document the city's Greek, Roman, and Byzantine periods.
