Arabic connects the different regions of the country, while local communities maintain their own customs in daily life. Markets in the cities follow traditional patterns, with traders grouping themselves by craft and goods.

Access currently occurs mainly through neighboring countries, with road connections linking the major population centers. Visitors should check current conditions before planning any travel.

Damascus shows archaeological layers documenting continuous settlement for 11,000 years, preserving traces from the Bronze, Iron, and classical periods. These overlapping epochs can still be traced today beneath parts of the modern city.
