Chagar Bazar

Chagar Bazar is an archaeological site with two mounds along a tributary of the Khabur River in Al-Hasakah Governorate. The site contains remains of multiple ancient buildings and structures from different periods of occupation.

A British archaeologist began excavations here in the 1930s and uncovered numerous artifacts from the site. These excavations helped scholars understand how early settlements developed in the region.

The settlement displays different building types from circular tholoi to rectangular houses, showing how residents organized their living spaces over time. These varied structures reveal how people adapted their construction methods and designs to suit their practical needs.

The site is located in hilly terrain in northeastern Syria and can be explored on foot. Take time to walk across both mounds and move gradually through the excavated areas to see the different structures.

The site yielded ancient pottery and clay tablets with writing that show how people recorded their business and administrative matters. These findings offer rare glimpses into daily life and organizational structures of that era.
