Jomtien, Beach resort in Na Chom Thian, Thailand
Jomtien is a beach in Na Chom Thian, Thailand, stretching six kilometers along the Gulf of Thailand and lined with palm trees. The coastline combines sandy sections with shallow water and several beach zones dedicated to different activities for sports or relaxation.
The area developed from a fishing village into a beach resort starting in the 1980s, as tourism along Thailand's eastern coast began to grow. The expansion of infrastructure and proximity to Pattaya encouraged the influx of visitors and led to the construction of numerous hotels along the coast.
Vendors along the promenade sell grilled seafood and coconuts directly to visitors, while local families gather in the late afternoon for swimming and picnics. The atmosphere remains more relaxed than in busier beach towns further north, with less nighttime activity and more space for quiet walks along the water.
Visitors can reach the beach by shared taxis or private taxis from Pattaya, with the journey taking around 20 minutes and stopping at several points along the coast. Most accommodations are within walking distance of the shore, and beach sections with sun loungers are available along the entire length.
The southern part of the coast is favored by locals who grill and picnic with their families under rented umbrellas on weekends. The northern sections attract more travelers who rent water sports equipment and participate in organized activities.
