Soi Cowboy, Entertainment street in Sukhumvit district, Bangkok, Thailand.
Soi Cowboy is a pedestrian zone roughly 150 meters (490 feet) long in the Sukhumvit district of Bangkok, running between Asok Road and Sukhumvit 23. Around forty venues line the narrow alley and display colorful neon signs in red and pink tones that glow above the entrances at night.
The street emerged in the early 1970s when retired military pilot T.G. Edwards opened the first venue in the area. His nickname remained associated with the street and later shaped its official designation.
The district takes its name from a former American pilot who opened the first venue here after his military service, and whose nickname spread to the entire street. Today the glowing signs and venue facades display Thai and English lettering aimed at an international audience.
The nearest stations are BTS Asok and MRT Sukhumvit, both just a few minutes on foot. Most venues open around 6 p.m. and close around 2 a.m.
The street appeared in two films, including the 2004 production Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and the 2008 release Bangkok Dangerous. These appearances brought the location worldwide recognition and have since drawn many visitors who want to recognize the filming sites.
