Lake Boraphet, Freshwater lake and swamp in Nakhon Sawan Province, Thailand.
Lake Boraphet is an expansive freshwater body in Nakhon Sawan Province that stretches across multiple districts, featuring shallow shores lined with reeds and marshy vegetation. The surrounding area contains various wetland habitats, aquatic zones, and adjoining woodland that together create a complex living environment.
The area began as a natural swamp and transformed into a larger water body after a dam was constructed in the 1930s. This change was intended to support fishing activities in the region.
Fishermen here practice methods passed down through generations, relying on the water for their livelihood. Visitors can explore nearby craft villages where local artisans sell handmade goods and regional products.
Access is best via Highway 1 from Bangkok to Jiraprawat Camp, then onto Highway 225 for the final stretch. The best time to visit is during the rainy and cool months when water levels are high and wildlife activity is strong.
This water body was the last known location of the white-eyed river martin, last spotted in 1980 and never documented again since then. It also hosts marsh grassbirds that were first discovered in this area in 2019.
