Wat Nong Pa Phong, Buddhist temple in Non Phueng, Thailand
Wat Nong Pa Phong is a Buddhist temple in Non Phueng in Ubon Ratchathani Province in northeastern Thailand. The grounds cover several hectares with meditation halls, accommodations for monks and visitors, and a main shrine surrounded by walking paths beneath flowering trees.
The temple was established in 1954 and gained importance under the guidance of Ajahn Chah, who introduced a strict meditation practice here. His teaching methods attracted students from across Asia and later from the West over the decades.
The monks here live according to forest tradition principles and spend their days in quiet contemplation and simple manual work. This way of life shapes the calm, almost silent atmosphere across the entire grounds.
In the morning at 8 AM visitors can watch or take part in the alms ceremony, and in the evening from 7 PM meditation sessions are held. Those wishing to stay overnight must inquire in advance with the temple authorities and follow the house rules.
A small museum on the grounds preserves personal belongings of Ajahn Chah, including his walking stick, robes, and handwritten notes. This collection draws students and followers from around the world who come to study his teachings.
