Prince of Songkla University is a public institution in Hat Yai with additional sites across southern Thailand, serving more than thirty-three thousand students through over thirty faculties, research centers, and two hospitals. The main campus occupies a large green area dotted with modern buildings, laboratories, and a botanical garden, while satellite locations operate near coastal towns and inland communities.
King Bhumibol Adulyadej founded the institution in 1967 and named it after Prince Mahidol Adulyadej to create the first higher education center in southern Thailand. Over the following decades, the school expanded across multiple sites and added faculties, research facilities, and medical departments to serve the growing population of the region.
