Suranaree University of Technology, Public university in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
Suranaree University of Technology is a public university in Nakhon Ratchasima that spreads academic buildings, research facilities, and residential complexes across a large campus. The various faculties cluster around central plazas, while green spaces and pathways connect the different zones.
The founding act was signed by King Bhumibol Adulyadej on July 27, 1990, officially creating the institution. It became one of the first public technical universities established outside Bangkok in the country.
The institution is named after Thao Suranari, a 19th-century local heroine widely honored throughout this province. Her memory appears across the grounds through monuments and symbols that visitors can discover.
The grounds are large, so comfortable shoes help when exploring the different areas. Some buildings are open to visitors, while others remain accessible only to enrolled students.
The campus hosts the Synchrotron Light Research Institute, a rare research facility in Southeast Asia for materials science and physics. Few locations outside Europe and North America have such equipment for synchrotron radiation experiments.
