Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo

Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo, Animal park in Chai Mongkhon, Thailand

Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo is a large animal facility in its namesake city that houses over 1,800 animals from different parts of the world. The grounds feature predators like tigers and lions, hoofed animals such as giraffes and zebras, plus many bird species spread across its vast layout.

Construction began in 1989 and the facility opened in the mid-1990s as part of Thailand's broader national zoological initiatives. From its start, the site was designed to serve educational purposes alongside the country's wildlife preservation goals.

The zoo serves as a place where visitors learn about animals and their habitats through direct observation and interaction with the environment. Schools and families come here regularly to understand more about wildlife and nature conservation.

Visitors can explore the grounds by bicycle, golf cart, or guided train service that runs throughout the day. It helps to wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water since the property is quite spread out.

The zoo is home to a notably large chimpanzee group, among the country's biggest, which shows the scale of its animal care programs. Another distinctive feature is the country's first seal training center, established here and still operating today.
