Southeast Asian Ceramics Museum, Art museum in Pathum Thani, Thailand
The Southeast Asian Ceramics Museum is an art museum in Pathum Thani displaying approximately 500 ceramic pieces from a permanent collection containing 15,000 artifacts. These objects come from Thailand, China, Vietnam, and Myanmar and show the diverse ceramic production across Southeast Asia over different periods.
The museum opened to the public in 2005 and was later established through an official inauguration by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in 2009. Its foundation was built on a significant donation of ceramic pieces that formed the core of the institution.
The museum focuses on ceramics from historical Tak-Omkoi sites and displays Khmer pieces from Phnom Dongrek and Phnom Kulen kilns. This collection reflects the artistic connections between different regions across Southeast Asia and shows how craft traditions lived across borders.
The museum is located on the Bangkok University campus and is open Monday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm with free admission. Visitors should note that hours are limited to weekdays, so planning a visit during these times is important.
The core collection comes from Surat Osathanugrah, founder of Bangkok University, who donated his personal ceramics to establish the institution. This generosity allowed the museum to begin with an exceptionally large number of pieces.
