Wat Khao Rong Phra Chan, Buddhist temple in Huai Pong, Thailand
Wat Khao Rong Phra Chan is a Buddhist temple situated at the summit of a 650-meter mountain in Huai Pong. It is accessed by climbing thousands of steps that wind through natural surroundings with rest pavilions spaced along the way.
The temple was established as a place for monastic life and spiritual devotion. The former abbot Luang Pu Fak gathered Buddhist artifacts and relics that gave the site religious importance over time.
The temple houses an ordination hall, wooden ceremonial structures, and a flaming Buddha statue positioned near the former abbot's burial site. These spaces show how monks and pilgrims gather to practice their faith together.
The climb to the summit takes between one and three hours depending on your pace and fitness. Water and refreshments are available on certain days, so it helps to inquire ahead and wear comfortable shoes for the steep ascent.
At the mountain peak, visitors find a sacred Buddha footprint and shrines embedded in the rocks. These locations offer not only religious meaning but also expansive views across the surrounding countryside and occasional encounters with local monkeys.
