Bang Khun Thian, Administrative district in Bangkok, Thailand.
Bang Khun Thian is a district in the southernmost part of Bangkok that extends to the Bangkok Bay coastline. The area blends urban development with waterfront elements and includes residential and commercial zones.
The district was established in 1867 as an amphoe of Thonburi and became a Bangkok district during the 1972 administrative restructuring. This change marked its shift from a separate area to an integrated part of Bangkok.
The district is home to seven temples, including Wat Bang Kradi, which hold deep ties to the Thai Mon community living here. These religious spaces shape daily life and give the neighborhood its character.
CentralPlaza Rama II serves as the main shopping center, while Kanchanaphisek Road and Motorway 9 provide key transportation routes. Being near the coast means the weather is more humid and streets can flood during high tides.
The area has around 5 kilometers of mangrove-lined coastline that supports fishing communities. These mangrove zones are also home to smooth-coated otters and various crab species.
