King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Institute of technology in Lat Krabang District, Bangkok, Thailand
King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang is a technical university in Lat Krabang District, eastern Bangkok, focused on applied sciences and engineering. The complex includes buildings for nine faculties, among them architecture, food industry, and medicine, along with central facilities for research and student life.
The facility began in 1960 as a telecommunications training center with Japanese government support. The move to the current location near Suvarnabhumi Airport came later, providing space for expansion and new faculties.
The campus bears the name of King Mongkut, who promoted scientific learning during the 19th century. Students gather in open spaces between faculty buildings for group work and informal meetings throughout the day.
The campus sits roughly 30 kilometers east of Bangkok's city center in a low-density area. Visitors find a four-story library and laboratories accessible during daytime hours, as well as sports facilities used outside class times.
In 1982, the university awarded Thailand's first doctoral degree in electrical engineering to Dr. Chom Kimpan. This moment marked the beginning of independent doctoral work in technical fields across the country.
