Wat Nang Phaya

Wat Nang Phaya, Buddhist temple in Nai Mueang, Phitsanulok, Thailand.

Wat Nang Phaya is a Buddhist temple on the eastern bank of the Nan River in a quiet area of Phitsanulok, known for its fine stucco decorations and traditional Thai architecture. The building sits directly next to Wat Ratchaburana, forming a connected religious complex with it.

The temple was established during the reign of King Trailokanat, a time of great religious activity in the Ayutthaya kingdom. Its creation reflects the intensive period when many sacred sites were founded across Thailand.

The name refers to a revered female figure whose presence shapes the spiritual life at this place. Visitors can sense the devotional energy created by the many believers who regularly come here to pray and make offerings.

The temple is within walking distance from the river and easy to reach on foot without needing a ticket. It is best to wear appropriate clothing and check the opening hours, especially if you want to take photographs.

This sanctuary is less known for a sprawling temple complex with multiple buildings, but rather focuses on its pagoda repository housing precious votive tablets. This unusual focus makes the place interesting for those wanting to understand Thai religious practices more closely.
