The district emerged during the 1800s tin mining boom when Chinese merchants built mansions and shophouses that established the foundation of today's architectural landscape. This early growth created the economic and cultural framework that continues to define the area.

The district contains Chinese shrines alongside Thai temples, with residents and shopkeepers maintaining these spaces as part of their daily lives. The presence of multiple faiths visible in the streets shows how different communities coexisted here for generations.

The district is best explored on foot through its narrow streets, which allow close views of architectural details and easy photography opportunities. The Thai Hua Museum serves as a natural starting point before walking through the main commercial lanes.
