Jui Tui Shrine

Jui Tui Shrine is a Chinese temple in a historic neighborhood of Phuket featuring red columns, curved roofs, and ornate dragon sculptures on its facades. Inside, multiple altars provide space for prayers and offerings made by visitors and devotees.

The shrine was founded in 1911 under the guidance of a spiritual medium, following traditional Chinese architectural principles. It underwent major restoration in 1982, which shaped its current appearance.

The shrine serves as a gathering place during the ninth lunar month when the community comes together for the Vegetarian Festival, participating in spiritual rituals and processions through the neighborhood. This celebration shapes local life and brings people together around shared beliefs and practices.

Visitors should wear clothing that covers shoulders and knees to respect local customs. The shrine is easily reached on foot from the main area of Phuket Old Town.

The shrine's design reflects intentional symbolism, with its overall shape resembling a turtle without its head and tail. This architectural detail embodies the Chinese tradition of representing longevity and prosperity.
