Wat Mai Thong Sen, Buddhist temple in Thanon Nakhon Chai Si, Thailand.
Wat Mai Thong Sen is a Buddhist temple on Nakhon Chai Si Road in Bangkok's Dusit district, registered as an official Thai historic site. The compound holds several traditional Thai-style buildings with gilded roofs, religious statues, and ornamental details typical of temple construction in this region.
The temple dates to the Rattanakosin period and was rebuilt and extended at different points over the following centuries. Its formal registration as a Thai historic site came as recognition of its long role in the religious life of the surrounding neighborhood.
Wat Mai Thong Sen is an active place of worship where locals come for daily prayers, ceremonies, and religious instruction. On Buddhist holidays, the grounds fill with offerings, incense, and people going about their rituals in an unhurried way.
The temple sits on Nakhon Chai Si Road and can be reached on foot from the Payap Pier on the Chao Phraya Express Boat line. As with most temples in Bangkok, covered shoulders and long pants or a skirt are expected when entering the grounds.
Despite being close to a busy stretch of the Chao Phraya, the temple draws almost no tourists and remains largely a neighborhood place. This means visitors can watch everyday religious life here without the crowds that fill better-known temples nearby.
