Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort, hotel in Bangkok, Thailand
Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort is a five-star hotel on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River in Thon Buri, across from the older parts of central Bangkok. The property sits directly on the water and has private piers, multiple restaurants, an outdoor pool, and a spa within its grounds.
Thon Buri served as the capital of Siam in the late 18th century before Bangkok took over that role across the river. The area gradually became a quieter residential side of the city, which shaped the kind of low-rise, river-facing development seen here today.
The decor inside the resort draws on Thai craftsmanship, with carved wooden details and woven fabrics that reflect the style found in older Bangkok neighborhoods. The setting on the Thon Buri side of the river gives guests a sense of a part of the city that moves at a slower pace than the main tourist areas.
The easiest way to reach the hotel is by boat from BTS Saphan Taksin Station, where the hotel runs a shuttle service to its piers. From those same piers, local river boats connect guests to temples and landmarks on both banks, making the river the most practical route around.
The resort operates a dinner cruise on a restored rice barge called Manohra, which once carried goods along the Chao Phraya before being converted into a floating restaurant. At night, the slow pace of the barge gives a very different view of the lit temples along the riverbanks compared to what you see from land.
