Ashgabat International Airport, International airport in Bagtyyarlyk District, Turkmenistan.
Ashgabat International Airport is an aerodrome in Ahal Region, Turkmenistan, with two parallel runways measuring 3,800 meters (12,467 feet) in length. The complex consists of a large main terminal and additional facilities for check-in and immigration procedures.
Work began in 1994 with the construction of the original facilities, later replaced through extensive reconstruction efforts. In September 2016, the new building opened for operations after several years of modernization.
The terminal carries a nickname referring to the shape of a falcon, an animal with special meaning in the region. This design is reflected in the lines and proportions that visitors notice from the forecourt.
The building operates around the clock and provides counters for check-in as well as stations for immigration formalities. The facility can handle up to 14 million travelers annually, with waiting times varying depending on time of day.
Inside the main building, there is a transit hotel for crews and passengers who need to rest between flights. This accommodation is directly integrated into the terminal area and saves travelers the journey outside.
