Saparmurat Hajji Mosque, Islamic mosque in Geok Tepe, Turkmenistan.
Saparmurat Hajji Mosque is an Islamic place of worship in Geok Tepe featuring a large central blue dome surrounded by four smaller half domes. Four minarets rise above the structure, and inside a spacious prayer hall contains decorated walls and extensive lighting.
A French construction company completed the building in 1995, naming it after President Saparmurat Niyazov who performed the Hajj pilgrimage in 1992. Later a major renovation by a Turkish firm in 2008 added new facilities to the complex.
The interior walls display embossed patterns inspired by traditional Turkmen carpet designs. This decorative approach connects regional textile crafts with the religious purpose of the space.
The complex has space to accommodate large gatherings and religious ceremonies. Visitors should know that the grounds are sacred and appropriate dress along with respectful behavior is expected.
A nationally significant museum was built directly on the grounds and supplements the sanctuary with educational content. This combination makes the site where religion and history meet in one location.
