Galite Islands, Volcanic archipelago in northern Tunisia.
La Galita is an island group in northern Tunisia composed of one main island and several smaller islets. The landmass rises sharply from the Mediterranean with steep cliffs forming the dominant feature of the landscape.
The islands served as a strategic military base for the Italian Navy during World War II. Afterward, they became a place of exile for Tunisia's future president Habib Bourguiba.
The islands maintain strong connections to Mediterranean maritime traditions through their historical fishing communities from Ponza and Tabarka settlements.
Access to the islands requires a permit and is possible only by boat journey lasting several hours. Camping is the only accommodation option available on the islands.
A lighthouse on one of the smaller islands monitors the surrounding waters and aids navigation in the area. The location also functions as a protected reserve for Mediterranean species.
