The Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople is one of the most ancient Christian communities in the world.
It was founded by Andrew the Apostle and has been the Mother Church of Byzantine Christianity since 330 AD.
The Patriarchate plays a leading role in the worldwide Orthodox community and holds a special place in Eastern Orthodoxy.
The Patriarchate is located in the Fener district of Istanbul and is open to visitors.
Despite its historical significance, it does not have jurisdiction over other autocephalous Orthodox Churches.
