Church of St. Mary of the Mongols, Eastern Orthodox church in Turkey
The Church of St. Mary of the Mongols is the last remaining Byzantine church in Istanbul that was never converted into a mosque.
Established in 1281 by the Byzantine princess Maria Palaiologina.
Also known as the Bloody Church due to its Turkish name Kanlı Kilise.
Located within the Fener and Fatih districts of Istanbul.
Holds a special decree from Mehmed the Conqueror exempting it from conversion.
