Umut Bridge, International road bridge at Azerbaijan-Turkey border.
The Umut Bridge is an international road bridge connecting Turkey and Azerbaijan across the Aras River. It features a two-lane roadway and serves as a direct crossing point between the two countries.
Construction of the bridge began in 1991 and it opened officially on May 22, 1992. It replaced an earlier structure that had historical significance during the Second World War era.
The structure carries different names in regional languages, known as Umut Köprüsü in Turkish and Ümid Körpüsü in Azerbaijani.
The bridge is open daily for traffic and connects major road routes from both countries. Visitors should expect this to be a busy border crossing with potential delays at customs checkpoints.
The current site was previously home to an earlier bridge crossing that played a role in Second World War history. This historical connection makes the location more than just a modern border facility.
