Cennet Efendi Turbe

As a tourist guide, I would like to introduce you to Cennet Efendi Türbesi, located in the Aziz Mahmud Hüdayi neighborhood of Üsküdar district in Istanbul. Cennet Efendi Türbesi is a tomb built by Cennet Muhammed Efendi, who was a disciple of Aziz Mahmut Hüdai. He constructed this tomb as a zawiya (a place for Sufi gatherings). Cennet Muhammed Efendi has been buried here since 1665. In the 1800s, the tomb was destroyed by fire and later rebuilt in wood by Rabia Adviye Hanım in 1870. She had a plaque installed at the entrance with an inscription written by Sheikh Osman Şems Efendi. The plaque was composed of four verses written by Sheikh Osman Şems Efendi in 1870 and engraved in ta'lik calligraphy by Mehmed Mısri. Unfortunately, in 1961, the tomb walls were destroyed by another fire. However, in 2012, thanks to a joint effort by the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and the General Directorate of Foundations, the tomb was reconstructed according to its original design. Cennet Muhammed Efendi's wife, Halife Fatma Hanım, and his successor, Şeyh Mehmet Ruşen Tevfiki Efendi's wife, are also buried in the tomb. Additionally, Rabia Adviye Hanım's son, Üsküdar Chief Inspector Burunsuz Vehbi Bey, and her other son, Colonel Tevfik Bey, are also buried here. The tomb is located in the Aziz Mahmud Hüdayi neighborhood of Üsküdar district, which can be easily reached by public transportation. You can take a ferry from Eminönü or Karaköy to Üsküdar and then walk to the tomb. Alternatively, you can take a bus or a taxi.
