Sofular Cave, Show cave in Kilimli, Turkey
Sofular Cave is a show cave near the village of Kilimli on Turkey's Black Sea coast, open to the public for guided visits. It features several chambers with rock formations shaped by water slowly dissolving the stone over a very long period.
The cave is believed to have been used by people in earlier times as a shelter or hiding place before it was developed as a public site. Its current shape was carved out by water over thousands of years.
Sturdy, non-slip shoes are a good idea since some sections inside have uneven ground and low ceilings. The interior stays cooler than outside, so a light layer can be useful, especially in summer.
Minerals deposited in the rock over time create patches of different colors on the cave walls. These tones become especially noticeable when the cave is lit up during a visit.
