Caotun Township, Administrative division in Nantou County, Taiwan

Caotun Township is an administrative township in northwest Nantou County made up of 27 village communities spread across the landscape. The area contains both rural zones and small urban centers that serve as local gathering points for residents.

The region was originally called Chháu-ê-tun and received its current name in 1920 during Japan's administration of Taiwan. This renaming reflected changes in how the colonial government organized the territory.

Lei Tsang Temple stands as a Buddhist complex on the hillside, featuring large bodhisattva statues and traditional architectural elements within its main hall.

Bus service connects this township to Taichung, running regularly along Highway 63 with straightforward access from the main urban areas. Planning ahead for local transport helps you move easily between the different village communities.

A local Taoist temple features an unusual architectural design shaped like a worm wearing a farmer's hat. The interior houses many bats that have made the structure their natural home.
