Xiaolin Village, Agricultural village in Jiasian District, Taiwan
Xiaolin Village is an agricultural settlement in Jiasian District surrounded by mountains and rural landscapes. The village consists of scattered residential areas and farmland distributed across the hilly terrain.
The Taivoan people arrived in this region between 1722 and 1744, establishing their community long before formal administration during Japanese rule created the village structure in 1904. This early settlement by the Taivoan became the foundation for the community today.
The village maintains connections to its Taivoan roots, with residents sharing traditions and customs in daily life. The way people gather and celebrate together shows this enduring link to their heritage.
The village is relatively remote and requires preparation for a visit due to its mountain location and limited infrastructure. It is wise to allow extra time for travel and check local conditions before making the journey.
A massive landslide triggered by Typhoon Morakot in 2009 destroyed much of the original village and forced many residents to relocate. A memorial park was later created on the site, with trees planted to remember those affected.
