Sikunshen Longshan Temple, Chinese temple in Magong City, Taiwan.
Sikunshen Longshan Temple is a Chinese temple in Magong, on the Penghu Islands of Taiwan, dedicated to the deity Xuantian Shangdi. The building features curved roof lines, painted wood carvings, and stone columns typical of the traditional southern sea temple style.
The temple was built during the Ming dynasty, when fishing settlements on the Penghu Islands were growing and needed places of spiritual shelter. It was rebuilt several times over the centuries, with renovations during the Japanese colonial period leaving a particularly strong mark.
The temple is dedicated to Xuantian Shangdi, a deity widely respected among fishing communities for his protective power over the sea. During visits, it is common to see worshippers tossing wooden divination blocks on the floor to ask the deity for guidance.
The temple sits in central Magong and is easy to reach on foot from most accommodation near the harbor. Visiting in the early morning is a good idea, as that is when daily prayer rituals take place before tourist groups arrive.
The name of the temple includes the word 'Sikunshen', which refers to an old district name that no longer appears on any official map. This makes the building one of the few visible reminders of the original settlement geography of the islands.
