Jinshuiying Historical Trail

Jinshuiying Historical Trail is a mountain hiking route in the Central Mountain Range of Pingtung County that spans across multiple terrain sections. The path connects different elevation zones and passes by numerous historical remains throughout its course.

The path served as an important transportation route for different peoples and powers over several centuries, including indigenous groups, Qing soldiers, foreign missionaries, and Japanese forces. The route shows how the region was used and shaped across multiple successive periods.

The trail passes by several historical sites including military stations from the Qing Dynasty and Japanese police outposts that reflect Taiwan's colonial periods. These remains show how different rulers crossed and controlled the region.

The route requires good physical fitness and is best hiked during dry months when rain does not make it difficult to walk. It is advisable to go with an experienced guide and check weather conditions before starting.

During winter months, thousands of purple crow butterflies gather in a particular section of the trail and create a rare natural display. This butterfly migration attracts visitors who want to experience this temporary sight.
