Yongheshan Reservoir

Yongheshan Reservoir is a water storage facility nestled in the mountains of Miaoli County, fed by two rivers that converge to fill its basin. The water sits in a steep-sided valley surrounded by forested hillsides, creating a landscape where human infrastructure meets natural terrain.

The dam was completed in 1984 as part of regional water management infrastructure development. Its construction marked an important expansion of water supply capacity for the surrounding areas.

The reservoir integrates with local environmental programs through community events and educational initiatives that focus on water resource management and conservation.

The site sits in mountainous terrain with access via winding roads, best visited during clear weather when views of the surrounding hills are unobstructed. Sturdy footwear is helpful for exploring the slopes and pathways around the water.

Water reaches the dam from two separate river systems that flow down from different mountain areas and merge before filling the basin. This dual-source design was chosen to maximize water availability during seasonal dry periods.
