Yongchunpi Wetland Park, Ecological wetland park in Xinyi District, Taiwan
Yongchunpi Wetland Park is a protected wetland in Xinyi District, Taipei, made up of several water basins, wooden boardwalks, and raised viewing platforms. The grounds are divided into distinct zones, each supporting different plants and wildlife.
The site began as a water storage basin during the Qing Dynasty and was later turned into a coal mining area during the Japanese colonial period. After that era ended, the land was gradually restored and opened to the public as a wetland.
The name of the park means "eternal spring" in Chinese, which fits the way the space stays green throughout the year. Visitors often see people doing morning exercises along the wooden boardwalks or sitting by the water basins watching birds go about their day.
The park is open at all times and free to enter, with clearly marked paths that are easy to follow on foot. Public transit stops are nearby, and on-site parking is also available for those arriving by car.
The wetland acts as a natural drainage buffer for the surrounding neighborhoods, quietly absorbing heavy rainfall before it can cause flooding elsewhere in the city. Most visitors walking the boardwalks have no idea they are standing on what is effectively part of Taipei's flood management system.
