Truskavets

Truskavets is a spa town in a valley of the Carpathian foothills, about 60 miles (100 kilometers) south of Lviv, that specializes in mineral water treatments. Fourteen springs supply drinking pavilions and bathing facilities spread across a large park with walking paths and colonnades.

A Polish physician described the healing properties of the local springs in the late sixteenth century, but organized spa facilities appeared only in the early nineteenth century. The town then developed into one of the largest resorts in Eastern Europe during the Soviet period.

The Bilas family museum preserves a private collection of paintings, sculptures and historical objects in a wooden villa that recalls the Polish influence in the region. Visitors find works by local artists and documents showing everyday life in the Carpathians a century ago.

The springs sit in the center, with short walking distances between drinking pavilions and bathhouses. Most facilities are accessible at ground level, though some historical buildings have steps.

The Naftusya spring contains traces of petroleum, giving the water a slight smell and taste of oil. Doctors recommend drinking the water directly at the source, as the chemical composition changes after a few hours.
