Romny, Administrative center in Sumy Oblast, Ukraine
Romny extends along the banks of the Sula River in northern Ukraine, with an elevation of 171 meters above sea level.
The settlement originated as a Rus fortress in 1096, later falling under Lithuanian control before becoming part of the Russian Empire in 1781.
The Holy Spirit Cathedral, constructed in 1735, represents northern Ukrainian architectural traditions with its distinctive baroque design patterns.
The city maintains several educational institutions, including an agricultural college and a medical school, serving the regional population of 37,765 residents.
During its peak in 1638, Romny emerged as the largest settlement in the region with 6,000 inhabitants, marking its importance as a local center.
