Pavlohrad, Industrial center in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Ukraine
Pavlohrad is an industrial city in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine, covering an area of 59 square kilometers. The settlement sits at 71 meters (233 feet) elevation near several transport routes and serves as a center for rocket engine production.
A Cossack named Matvii Khizhnyak established winter quarters at this spot in 1770, which grew into a city 14 years later. The settlement received its name in honor of Russian Emperor Paul I, who reigned in the late 18th century.
The name comes from Emperor Paul I and now belongs to a city where two languages shape daily life. Visitors hear Ukrainian and Russian spoken in shops, markets and street conversations across town.
Access comes through several transport routes connecting the eastern city area with other regions. Visitors find schools and public facilities spread across the urban area, offering a sense of local life.
The mechanical plant, which opened in 1963, still manufactures solid-fuel rocket engines and shapes the cityscape. Its presence draws specialists and families who live in the surrounding residential quarters.
