Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Administrative region in south-central Ukraine.
Dnipropetrovsk Oblast is an administrative region in south-central Ukraine stretching along both banks of the Dnipro River. The territory includes several large cities and vast agricultural plains between forested areas and steppe landscapes that extend across the river basin.
Slavic communities settled along the Dnipro from the early medieval period and used the river as a trade route. The region developed into a center of heavy industry during the Soviet era with focus on metalworking and mining operations.
The oblast holds a population of over 3 million people, with 79.3% ethnic Ukrainians and 17.6% Russians maintaining their distinct cultural traditions and languages.
The region can be reached via highways, rail connections, and river routes that run between the major cities. Visitors find hotels and guesthouses mainly in the urban centers, while rural areas offer less tourism infrastructure.
The Kryvbas mining district in the western part contains some of the deepest iron ore mines in Europe. Some shafts reach over one kilometer below the surface and have been extracting ore for more than a century.
