Kriukiv Bridge, Double-deck bridge in Kremenchuk, Ukraine
Kriukiv Bridge stretches 1.7 kilometers across the Dnieper River in Kremenchuk on two separate decks that carry railway tracks below and a roadway with pedestrian lanes above. The structure combines metal spans supported by granite foundations, allowing trains and vehicles to cross the river independently at different levels.
Engineer Amand Struve designed this crossing in the mid-19th century as part of the Southern Railway linking Kiev with northeastern provinces. The bridge opened in 1872 and served as a critical link for freight and passenger transport through the Ukrainian territories of that era.
The bridge links the Kriukiv district on the right bank with the main part of Kremenchuk, forming an essential connection between these distinct urban areas.
About 3,000 trucks cross the structure daily using national routes H08 toward Mariupol and M22 to Oleksandriia. Pedestrian areas run along the road level while rail traffic moves uninterrupted below.
A vertical lift mechanism allows large river vessels to pass by raising a central section of the road level. This movable section integrates seamlessly with the continuous railway tracks, which remain undisturbed during the lifting operation.
