Preobrazhenskyi bridges, Rail and road bridge across Dnipro River in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine.
Preobrazhenskyi bridges are two parallel structures over the Dnipro in Zaporizhzhia that carry railway and road traffic on separate levels. Each construction rests on four large arches made of reinforced concrete and stretches across a total distance of 738 meters.
Work began in 1949 during the reconstruction following World War II and reached completion on December 31, 1952. Until 1974 the structures held the record as the longest arch bridges in Ukraine.
The crossing takes its name from engineer Borys Preobrazhenskyi, who led the planning and brought a new transport link to the region. Today it joins the city center with the riverbank and allows daily movement between both sides of town.
The crossing currently shows problems with waterproofing and expansion joints, which lead to delays in traffic flow. Vehicles should expect longer waiting times, especially during peak hours.
The four-arch construction uses a double-deck design, with railway tracks running on the lower level and roadways on the upper deck. This arrangement allows both types of traffic to operate at the same time without interfering with each other.
